This is a 2 hour Zoom session for people wanting to get things right from the start, from bringing a puppy home, right through to the early adolescent stage of owning a dog.
The seminar will include:
– Choosing the right pup from the right place – Do’s and Don’t’s (Aimed at people who might not have got their pup)
– House training
– Puppy mouthing and biting (what is normal and what isn’t) including different methods of how to deal with it
– Teaching appropriate play and using it effectively to stimulate and control prey drive
– Commands – how to teach words and signals correctly (effective communication)
– Reward v’s punishment
– Cage training and boundaries
– Recall and lead training
The information given in the seminar is based on Damians experiences working in this field for over 20yrs. Damian is a fully qualified and highly experienced Dog Behaviourist and is a full member of the Canine and Feline Behaviour Association (CFBA). He holds a Higher Education Diploma in Canine Assistant studies as well as City and Guilds Guide Dog Trainer qualification. He is also recognised as a Master Trainer with the Guild of Dog Trainers. He has worked full time with dogs since 1998. His career began working in a Kennel environment, this progressed to a full time role working for Guide Dogs for the Blind, where he has worked through all the stages of training a Guide Dog from the initial stages of training, through to being a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor whereby he was involved with matching the correct dog to the correct client. He has trained award winning Gundogs for multiple field trial events. He also has experience of breeding and training multiple different breeds of his own. Damian has worked full time in the field as a Dog Behaviourist for over 10 years now, dealing on a daily basis with dog to dog aggression as well as dog to people aggression.
This workshop looks to give attendees an idea of how to better understand their puppy and how to train it more effectively.
We are looking to structure the first hour of the session as a talk and then the 2nd hour as a question/answers session.
